The Dallas Mavericks have shown serious intent on improving from their 2024/25 season. The Mavs have hired former LA Lakers boss Frank Vogel to become the team's assistant coach.

Vogel is back in the NBA after taking last season off. His last coaching position in the league was in the 2023/24 campaign, when he led the Phoneix Suns to a sixth place finish in the Western Conference (49-33) before bowing out to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.

The 52-year-old will be involved with a seventh different NBA team. He started his time in the league back in 2001, joining the Boston Celtics as an assistant. Vogel then held the same role with the Philadelphia 76ers (2004-05) and Indiana Pacers (2007-11) before earning his first head coach role with the latter.

After a total of nine seasons in Indiana - five of which he was the head coach - Vogel had two years with the Orlando Magic and three with the Los Angeles Lakers. In LA, he led the Lakers to their 17th and most recent NBA title, back in 2020. After departing the team in 2022, he took a year off before joining the Suns for a season.

Vogel will be an assistant to Jason Kidd in Dallas, his first such role since 2011. Kidd, entering his sixth year as the Mavs' head coach, led them to a 39-43 record last season as they crashed out of the West's play-in final against the Memphis Grizzlies. He won a title with the Mavericks back in 2011 when he was still a player.
