Scherzer comes next in line during a streak of notable signings for the Blue Jays. The team recently signed outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year, $92.5 million deal, Jeff Hoffman for three years, $33 million. and Yimi Garcia for two years, $15 million.
Scherzer joins a Blue Jays pitching staff that ranked 22nd in ERA, 20th in WHIP, 24th in strikeouts, and 17th in opponent batting average. He missed most of 2024 following back surgery, a strained hamstring, and nerve issues.
Toronto finished dead last in the American League East last season with a 74-88 record. They haven't won the division since 2015.
Scherzer is an eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award-winner, and a two-time World Series Champion.
