Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Andrew Abbott (25) tossed seven shutout innings on 93 pitches while allowing just one hit against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

Abbott also struck out eight batters while walking just one. The Reds went on to win 6-2 and improved their record to 29-29 on the season.

He improved his record to 5-0 on the season after his ninth start while lowering his earned run average to a stellar 1.51, which would rank third-best in all of Major League Baseball if he were at the 10-game threshold.

In the month of May, Abbott posted an unreal 0.56 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched with 33 strikeouts - possibly earning him National League Pitcher of the Month honours.

Abbott is currently in his third year in the majors and has yet to finish a season with an ERA over 3.90. He can undoubtedly make a Cy Young run this season, but he will have to get his strikeout count up if he wants to top the likes of Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Paul Skenes (Pittsburgh Pirates) - both have 75+.
