Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar recorded his 100th career save on Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bednar became just one of five pitchers in Pirates history to achieve the 100-save milestone.

The 30-year-old Pennsylvania native now has his 16th save of the year and lowers his earned run average to 2.19

Drafted in the 35th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Bednar started his career as a member of the San Diego Padres

He pitched in 17 games for the Padres between his first two seasons (2019-2020), tossing a brutal 6.75 ERA.

In 2021, Bednar was dealt to the Pirates in a three-team deal that sent Joey Lucchesi to the Mets and Joe Musgrove to the Padres. Since then, Bednard has become a two-time All-Star and one of the best relievers in baseball.

In his five years with the Pirates, Bednar has only thrown above a season ERA over 3.00 just once - in 2024 (5.77).

Bednar led the league in saves (39) during his stellar 2023 campaign, in which he tossed a career-high 67.1 innings and 80 strikeouts while posting a career-low 2.00 ERA.
