Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery (32) will miss the upcoming 2025 MLB season after undergoing Tommy John surgery next week, according to multiple reports.

Montgomery received the same surgery in 2018 that caused him to miss most of the 2019 season as well.

The nine-year veteran signed with the Diamondbacks at the beginning of last season.

He opted into his player option for the upcoming year after struggling mightily with the D'Backs in 2024, throwing a 6.23 ERA in 21 starts (8-7).

In a bullpen session leading up to spring training this year, Montgomery injured his left index finger.

“I was probably just trying to throw too hard too soon,” Montgomery said. “I was throwing bullpens really hard, and then get in a game and tense up trying to make the perfect pitch. That’s never good for your arm. I was throwing some pretty good stuff, it was there.”

"But something was wrong. They told me we were just going to get some imaging on it - we thought it was just kind of a joint thing, would get a shot in there, clean it up and I’d be good. And that just wasn’t the case.”

The D'Backs will open the season at home against the Chicago Cubs on March 27th.
