The Chicago White Sox acquired left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert (31) in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

As part of the trade, the Phillies received Minor League right-handed pitcher Aaron Combs.

The White Sox designated Braden Shewmake for assignment in order to make room for Gilbert on the 40-man roster.

Gilbert spent the majority of 2024 in AAA for the Phillies and Cincinnati Reds. In his six appearances in the MLB last season for Philly, Gilbert gave up three runs on 10 hits in 8.1 innings pitched while walking two and striking out four.

He threw a solid 2.25 ERA in 31 games for the Phillies in AAA last season, giving up 33 hits in 40 innings while only walking eight batters to a resounding 52 strikeouts.

Gilbert will be entering his fifth season in the majors with a career 4.23 ERA and 1.220 WHIP in 34 games (13 starts). Despite not much playing time in the majors, Gilbert managed to throw a no-hitter in his first career start.

The former sixth-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft will finally have a great opportunity to stand out on a White Sox team coming off of the worst season in MLB history and looking for any kind of help they can get.

Combs, an eighth-round pick in this past season's MLB draft, only pitched in six games for the White Sox's A-team, throwing 7.2 innings in six games. He gave up five hits, two runs, walked four, and struck out 13.

This year will mark Combs' first full season in the minors.
