The Indianapolis Colts have hired former Cincinnati Bengals coach Lou Anarumo (58) as the team's new defensive coordinator.

Cincinnati fired Anarumo back on January 6th with other coaches who were part of the staff. He will now be replacing Gus Bradley for the Colts, who was fired from Indy the same day as Anarumo was from Cinci.

Anarumo has been the defensive coordinator for the Bengals since head coach Zac Taylor was hired in 2019. After the Bengals won the AFC Championship in 2019, Anarumo was sought out for head coaching positions for other teams but ultimately stayed with Cincinnati

The Bengals (9-8) missed out on a playoff birth for the second straight year in a row. Cincinnati's defence ranked 25th overall for the 2024 season and ranked 26th in points per game (25.5). The team lost four one-score games in which they gave up at least 34 points or more.

Surprisingly, the Bengals were tied for sixth-most takeaways this past season with 15 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries.

Cincinnati also finished with the 21st-ranked pass defence and the 19th-ranked run defence.

Under Anarumo, the Bengals only had a top-10 scoring defence just once (2022). Now, he'll be taking the reigns of a Colts defence that needs a lot of work.

The Colts finished the season with an 8-9 record and second place in the AFC South. Indy's defence ranked 29th in the league and 24th in points per game. Indy ranked in the bottom 10 for defence in each of the three years Bradley was the defensive coordinator.
