The Cincinnati Bengals fired defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo (58) on Monday along with offensive line coach Frank Pollack (57), defensive line coach Marion Hobby (58), and linebackers coach James Bettcher (46).

Anarumo has been the defensive coordinator for the Bengals since head coach Zac Taylor was hired in 2019. After the Bengals won the AFC Championship in 2019, Anarumo was sought out for head coaching positions for other teams but ultimately stayed with Cincinnati.

The Bengals (9-8) missed out on a playoff birth this season after wins from the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Cincinnati's defence ranked 25th overall for the 2024 season and ranked 26th in points per game (25.5). The team lost four one-score games in which they gave up at least 34 points or more.

Surprisingly, the Bengals were tied for sixth-most takeaways this past season with 15 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries.

Cincinnati also finished with the 21st-ranked pass defence and the 19th-ranked run defence. Despite defensive end Trey Hendrickson leading the league in sacks with 17.5, the Bengals as a team still ranked 25th in the league with 36 total.

Pollack had been the Bengals offensive line coach and run game coordinator since 2019 while Hobby had been the defensive line coach since 2021. Bettcher had been the linebackers coach since 2022.
