Amazing goalkeeper performances steals the show at the Handball World Cup

Outstanding goalkeeper performances has until now dominated the Handball World Cup. Hardly any game has gone by without spectators being treated to outstanding reflex saves from some of the world's best goalstoppers between the posts. Flashscore has selected a number of the best performances until now in the opening games.

1) Domenico Ebner, Italy (11 saves, 31%)

The handball dwarf Italy has quickly made their mark in the tournament, partly thanks to Domenico Ebner who turned into a frustrating figure for Tunesia in the opening game where Ebner especially during the start of the game laid the foundation for Italy's opening win in the tournament. 

2) Remi Desbonnet, France (9 saves, 36%)

France have had a strong tradition for developing great goalkeepers since the emergence of Thierry Omeyer who is now retired. Remi Desbonnet revelaed that he is next in line to continue that tradition when he was named Man of the Match against Qatar. Desbonnets colleague Samir Bellahcene contributed to "Building a wall" around the French goal with three additional saves in the final phase of the game.

3) Emil Nielsen, Denmark (16 saves, 47 %)

Also Emil Nielsen was voted Man of the Match as the Barcelona-keeper turned into a nightmare for the Algerian players who really struggled to find the the net despite clear-cut chances in the World Cup opening game in Herning against the Danish hosts.

4) Constantin Möstl, Austria (13 saves, 34%)

Ever since the European Championships a year ago, the Lemgo native has shown outstanding form between the posts. Especially in the second half against, Möstl impressed with numerous world-class saves while colleague Florian Kaiper added three more saves in the end. 

5) Nikola Portner, Switzerland (14 saves, 47 %) Tomas Mrkva, Czech Republic (12 saves, 41 %)

Things got really wild on day two. In the 17-17 draw between Switzerland and the Czech Republic, the goalkeepers from SC Magdeburg and THW Kiel starred as the absolutely deciding factors for their respective teams and provided virtal miracles between the posts. Portner was even named Man of the Match.

6) Diogo Marques, Portugal (10 saves, 38 %)

The match between Portual and USA was also dominated byt outstading goalkeeper performances. Portugal's Diogo Marques saved no less than 38% of the efforts on goal from USA while his colleague in the other end, USA goalkeeper Pal Merkovszky also had a great night by saving 32% of the Portuguses shots on goal.

7) Dominik Kuzmanovic, Croatia (12 saves, 57 %)

Its impossible to praise the goalkeeper performances without also including Croatias Dominik Kuzmanovic. The Gummersbach-keeper turned on the big show and instantly created World Cup fever in Zagreb against Bahrain and in the end was also voted man of the Match as the Balkan-hosts secured a perfect start to the tournament. 

8) Andreas Wolff, Germany (10 saves, 36%)

Germanys Andreas Wolff was the big star of the European championships and Olympic Games last year and at the World Cup he began where he left off frustrating the Polish frontmen in the opening match where he proved his materclass especially from the seven-metre-line.
